Due to it's proximity to the Costa Bravan border (Costa Brava is the conglomerate country
formed of Mexico and many of it's neighbours after the Central American Conflict from the
Bill Ransom novels Viravax and Burn and will be detailed in a future issue of JackAttack),
Verona Beach has been issued a special paramilitary police force with special powers and
dispensation reminiscent of collapse-era martial law by the State of South California (SoCal).
The original Captain of the Verona Beach Police Dept was Captain Morgan who forged an alliance
/ non-aggression pact between the police and the two major families in town on condition that
they help keep the peace. Things ran smoothly (with a lot of bribes lubricating the system)
until 2016.
March 21st, 2016, 16:21h, Captain F.D. Morgan was assassinated in a car-bombing. The
U.S. government placed the blame on Costa Bravan Guerrillas, and a temporary Captain was put in
Morgan's place. Since Verona Beach had been so calm for the past 15 years, an inexperienced
and naive captain was brought in, and soon all contact between the PD and the local "gang
families" as he refered to them were broken off. Civil war broke out between the Montagues and
Capulets at this time.
In late 2019, after going through 3 different Captains, Captain Prince was placed in charge
of the Verona Beach Police Dept. Captain Prince had many friends in the right places and
managed to get the VBPD beefed up again and finally put an end to the civil war as the
family heads buckled under the his military strength, and a new cold-war style peace returns
to the streets of Fair Verona. |
